Kimball Johnson, MD, physician and president of Midtown West Medical, PC,
is a board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, a
Certified HIV Specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine, and a
member of the American College of Sports Medicine.
Dr. Johnson has practiced Internal Medicine, HIV Medicine, and Sports Medicine in Atlanta for thirteen years. She began her medical career in Atlanta as a paramedic at Grady Memorial Hospital; as her medical interests grew, she completed her premedical curriculum at Georgia State University while working in the ambulance at night. A 1987 cum laude graduate of the Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Johnson also holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Taylor University, where she studied exercise physiology and biomechanics.
A member of numerous professional medical organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association, the Medical Association of Georgia, and the American Medical Women's Association, Dr. Johnson is a Diplomate of the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Internal Medicine. She was also a founding member of the American Academy of HIV Medicine; is a member of the Georgia Academy of HIV Medicine and the Regional Society of HIV Caregivers; and is a Physician Investigator for the AIDS Research Consortium of Atlanta.
Dr. Johnson is an avid runner and cyclist who has completed Olympic and Half-Ironman distance triathlons. She was a member of the 1996 Race Across American Cycling 1st Place Mixed Team.
Gloria J. Carusi, MS, RN, Nurse Practitioner, has worked in the nursing field in Atlanta since 1976, and has
worked with Dr. Johnson as a Clinical and Infusion Nurse since 1994. In May
2003, Gloria received a Masters in Nursing from the Family Nurse
Practitioner Program at Georgia State University and is now a Board
Certified Nurse Practitioner.
In addition to clinical nursing, Gloria has worked on the nursing staffs of Georgia Baptist Medical Center (now the Atlanta Medical Center) and Crawford W. Long Hospital of Emory University. She earned her nursing diploma from the Georgia Baptist School of Nursing. Gloria is an AIDS Certified Registered Nurse (ACRN) and a Certified Chemotherapy and Infusion Nurse. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American Nurses Association, the Georgia Nurses Association, and is a past Treasurer of the Association of Nurses Atlanta Chapter. Gloria is active in her church, and enjoys reading, needlework, power walking, traveling with her husband, Frank, and spending time with her grandson, Umberto.
Suzanne Combs, RN is the Practice Manager of
Midtown West Medical. She has worked in the healthcare field in Atlanta
since 1980. In addition to her previous experience as an Infusion Nurse and
Practice Manager for a private practice, she has worked as an Infusion Nurse
Manager and served as the Director of Clinical Services and as Hospice Care
Manager for Kimberly Quality Care/American Hospice. She has also cared for
chemotherapy, hematology, and surgical patients as a Staff Nurse in
ambulatory and hospital settings.
Suzanne received her Nursing Diploma from the Georgia Baptist School of Nursing. She is a member of the Georgia Nurses Association and the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, and has been active in raising funds and awareness for AIDS, leukemia, and heart disease. Suzanne volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and Hosea Feed the Homeless. She is a devoted wife and mother. Her daughter got married at the beach in 2006 and has now given Suzanne her first grandchild – a girl, Ansley Lawson Middlebrooks. Her son has finished college and is back home working. She also enjoys walking, horseback riding, gardening, traveling and spending time with Ansley.
